Building the Future of HR for Africa

Zanda was born from a simple observation: African enterprises deserve HR technology that understands their context — their currencies, their labour laws, their languages, their way of doing business.

Our Story

Across sub-Saharan Africa, more than 80% of small and medium enterprises still manage their people using spreadsheets, paper forms, and manual calculations. Payroll errors are common. Compliance is a guessing game. Employee data lives in scattered files that no one can find when it matters.

We saw this first-hand in Zambia. Companies with 20, 50, even 200 employees were spending days every month on payroll alone — manually calculating NAPSA contributions, ZRA PAYE deductions, and NHIMA levies. Leave balances lived in email threads. Recruitment meant printing CVs and passing them around the office.

Zanda was founded in Lusaka in 2025 to change this. We set out to build a platform that doesn't just digitise HR — it transforms it. A platform where payroll runs in minutes, not days. Where AI drafts your offer letters, flags compliance risks, and tells you which employees are at risk of leaving before they hand in their notice.

What makes Zanda different is that we didn't build a global tool and then try to localise it for Africa. We started with Africa. Every tax table, every statutory body, every public holiday, every currency — built in from day one. Today, Zanda supports Zambia, Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, and Ghana, with more countries on the roadmap.

We believe the future of work in Africa will be powered by intelligent software that understands local context. Zanda is building that future — one feature, one country, one happy HR team at a time.

The Problem We Solve

The HR software market in Africa is underserved and fragmented. Global platforms like BambooHR and Workday are priced for Western markets and don't support African statutory requirements. Local alternatives tend to be single-country, single-function tools that don't scale.

The result is that growing African businesses are forced to cobble together spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups, and manual processes. This creates real costs: payroll errors lead to penalties, compliance gaps expose the business to legal risk, and talented employees leave because the HR experience feels stuck in the past.

Zanda solves this by providing a single, integrated platform that handles everything — payroll, leave, attendance, recruitment, performance, compliance, and employee engagement — with country-specific configurations built in and AI woven throughout.

Our Values

These principles guide every product decision, every line of code, and every customer interaction.

Africa First

Every feature is built with African businesses in mind — local currencies, statutory bodies, labour laws, and cultural context. We don't retrofit global tools; we build natively.

AI That Serves People

Our AI doesn't replace HR professionals — it amplifies them. From drafting offer letters to flagging compliance gaps, AI handles the routine so your team can focus on people.

Trust & Security

Every organisation's data is completely isolated. We use role-based access, encryption, Cloudflare protection, and follow best practices to keep your people data safe.

Simplicity Over Complexity

HR software shouldn't require a consultant to set up. Zanda is designed so that anyone — from a startup founder to an HR director — can be productive within minutes.

Continuous Innovation

We ship new features every week. Our changelog is proof — from AI copilots to WhatsApp bots, we build what African businesses actually need, not what looks good on a feature matrix.

Community Driven

Our roadmap is shaped by the people who use Zanda daily. Feedback from HR managers in Lusaka, Nairobi, and Johannesburg drives every product decision.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every African business — from a five-person startup in Lusaka to a 10,000-employee enterprise in Johannesburg — has access to world-class HR technology that understands their local context.

Zanda's roadmap includes expansion across East, West, and North Africa, deeper AI capabilities including predictive workforce planning and automated compliance monitoring, and an open ecosystem of integrations that connects HR with payroll providers, banks, and government portals across the continent.

We are not just building software. We are building the infrastructure that will power Africa's workforce for the next decade.
